Sorry to say, I am disappointed with this book and will return it. First, the properties included in the book paid to be in it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (it does cost money to travel), as long as the reviews are unbiased. The entries in this book read like a not-very-well-written brochure, and add no information that you couldn't find on the property's website. Each property listed is featured on a two-page spread, mostly taken up with color photos, and about two paragraphs of very general information. There is very little to add value, such as which rooms are preferable, whether or not they serve dinner, the ambiance of the place. There are so many good guidebooks that give the traveler a sense of what to expect, and a description that helps you determine if a place is right for you, but this isn't one of them.

I also bought Outside's Wilderness Lodge Vacations, and that's a keeper. Fewer listings, but much more helpful.

Dusty Dave visited all of the ranches, lodges, cabins, and cottages described and photographed in this informative book. He is an excellent photographer and sensitive visitor, appreciating the varied landscapes and offerings of a wide range of vacation sites, from simple to elegant. You can't go wrong with any of these choices, and Dusty Dave tells you how to update facts and figures that may have changed since publication. One could just flip open a page at random and find a fascinating vacation destination.
